Gaye Brown as a Transylvanian

Gaye Brown (b: March 2, 1941 in Twickenham, Middlesex, England as Gabrielle Elizabeth Brown) is an English actress who appeared as a Transylvanian in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Biography

Gaye started getting acting roles in the early '60s, including television, stage and film. In 1964, she appeared in a series of TV commercials for The British Egg Marketing Board known as "Sheila and Eggs." Before becoming a Transylvanian, Gaye's most memorable role was that of the opera singer in the milk bar in A Clockwork Orange in 1972.

In 1974, Gaye, (fellow Transylvanian) Annabel Leventon and Diane Langton started a glam singing group called Rock Bottom, who were signed to RCA Records. They were a trio of actresses who sang, and created a theatrical act that through Michael White, landed them a Sunday night concert spot at the King's Road Theater, when The Rocky Horror Show was dark. That led directly to Gaye and Annabelle being cast as Transylvanians in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

A British television series called Rock Follies (which featured both Tim Curry and Nell Campbell) based on Rock Bottom was produced in 1976 and 1977. Although the original performers were originally intended for the show, the production cast other actresses in the roles, which used their names and imitated their likenesses and essentially put an end to the act. After many years of legal action, the three women were awarded a settlement and writer/creator credit on the acclaimed series, which was seen in the U.S. in 1979. On October 5,2017, Leventon released the book The Real Rock Follies: The Great Girl Band Rip-Off of 1976 detailing the ordeal.

Gaye Brown has continued to act in many roles, primarily on stage and television in England.
