Imogen Claire
Imogen Claire (November 2, 1943 – June 24, 2005) was a British dancer, choreographer and actress who appeared as a Transylvanian in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
A as a young woman, Imogen Claire trained at the Royal Ballet School, followed by the London Dance Theatre. Upon completing her training, Claire became member of the Royal Ballet Company. Later, she became a choreographer, with several credits in theater adding directing and design to her resume.
Claire was called to the Royal Court Theater to audition for the part of Magenta in the original 1973 stage version of The Rocky Horror Show, but was contractually unavailable at the time. Jim Sharman still wanted to work with her, and included Claire when the time came to make the film, giving her a role as a Transylvanian.
Other notable performances for Claire included supporting roles in several Ken Russell films. Claire kept her jacket and shirt from The Rocky Horror Picture Show filming, and later wore them in the Absolute Beginners with the blessing of the films costumer, Sue Blane.
Later in life, Claire became an advocate for dancers as an elected union official in Equity, where she remained active until contracting cancer in 2004. Claire passed away in 2005 from the disease.
