Jonathan Adams as Dr. Everett V. Scott
Jonathan Adams (February 14, 1931 – June 15, 2005) was an English actor known for his role as Dr. Everett V. Scott (A Rival Scientist) in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Adams originated the The Narrator role in the original 1973 production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Biography

Originally trained as a painter, Jonathan Adams studied art at Chelsea Art School and London University, with a special interest in Surrealism and Dada. He taught art to school boys for five years his hometown of Northhampton after spending time in the RAF Medical Corps, and then turned to acting. He spent three years as a member of the Northampton Repertory Theater, followed by an affiliation with the London's Children's Theater Company. As a result, he began getting roles in several productions in London's West End, most notably a two-year run in the show Alibi For A Judge. Additionally, he played in occasional music-hall productions at the Player's Theater at Charing Cross while breaking into small roles in television and movies.

At age 42, he originated the role of the Narrator in first version of The Rocky Horror Show. Adams dry, dramatic delivery of the Narrator was based on a famous English Criminologist, Edgar Lustgarten, who had a true-crime radio show in the UK at the time of the original play. Adams was asked to join the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975, though this time in the role of Dr. Everett V. Scott. Post Rocky, Adams went on to have a healthy career in television, film and on stage, mainly in British productions, including a sting in Richard O'Brien's third musical, Disaster in 1978. In 1990, he reprised his role of the Narrator in the West End Revival of Rocky Horror Show at the 1200-seat Piccadilly Theatre, which was released on a double-LP as The Rocky Horror Show: The Whole Gory Story. Adams passed away on June 13, 2005 as the result of a stroke. He was 74 years old.
