Phil Dejean

Phil Dejean is an American Rocky Horror Legend. In the early 80s while attending the High School of Music & the Arts (the school combined with Performing Arts to create Fiorello LaGuardia High School of the Arts). Upperclassmen and 8th Street Playhouse Eddie, Joe Snow (Nieves) took Phil under the wing and showed him a bootleg video of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and subsequently took him to the 8th Street Playhouse. He became a regular and on Saturdays playing Brad Majors at the Marboro Theatre in Brooklyn. After painting jackets for two 8th Street Eddies Joe Snow and The Fabulous Firehawk. Sal Piro asked him to paint a jacket for himself and join the 8th Street Players. Whilst performing Sal also recruited him to work for The Rocky Horror Picture Show Official Fan Club answering mail from around the globe, He was also the Fan Club's resident artist, illustrating everything from theater playbills, flyers, T-shirt designs to all the art in the "Prop List" section on rockyhorror.com. He has illustrated several self-published mini comics with Rocky themes and did RHPS strips for 'zines like "Unconventional Conventionalist" and "Madness Takes its Toll". Some of his Rocky related drawings were printed in Simpsons Illustrated Magazine. Phil was also the show's DJ and became the cast coordinator for the NYC theater when it moved to the Eastside Cinema and UA Movieland 8th Street. Eventually leaving those duties to the next generation he still does his best to guest perform whenever possible. Since 1995 Phil is still doing his NYC cable television show "Checkerboard Kids" (a mix of comedy and Ska music) of which in 1997 He married his co host and former 8th Street Columbia, Cinnamon (They parted in 2004 but remain good friends to this day). Phil photos and artwork is featured in Creatures Of The Night: The Rocky Horror Picture Show Experience and Creatures Of The Night II: More Of The Rocky Horror Picture Show Experience by Sal Piro. In 2022 Phil appeared on several episodes of the Rocky Talkie Podcast including the Sal Piro episode. His proudest moment was being of service and helping facilitate the 2023 Celebration of Life ceremony of his mentor and friend Sal Piro.
