In The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dr. Frank N Furter has the number 4711 tattooed on his upper right thigh.

4711 is a Citrus cologne with traces of rosemary and lavender, a spicy etheral scent for both men and women, and is considered a unisex fragrance. The number 4711 is based on the address of the factory in Cologne, Germany, where the fragrance was created in approximately 1799, not long after the first Eu de Cologne was originated. It was thought to be the cologne used by Adolf Hitler (traced to a mention by Thomas Pynchon in his novel Bleeding Edge) as well as being the cologne used by Holly Golightly in Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's. It was also, reportedly, very popular with gay men in the 1970s.

The number 4711 was adopted as the standard member number on all The Rocky Horror Picture Show Official Fan Club membership cards after the sequential numbering system was dropped and members began printing their own cards from an online PDF.

The number 4711 also appears in Shock Treatment as the number of a microfilm file Betty Munroe Hapschatt is researching at the Denton Daily.

4711 is still manufactured, and can be found easily for sale.
